"No Excuse Words"
Beginning in kindergarten the children will be accountable for spelling 25 of the "No Excuse Words." The spelling words will increase in number at each grade level. The children are expected to spell these words correctly in their writing daily, and read the words independently with "no excuses" given by the end of the kindergarten year.
Below the words are listed for you. You might like to look at some of the activities below for some creative ways to practice these words together at home.

Some creative ways to practice
the "no excuse words"
create the words using play-doe, forming the doe into letter to make the words
write the words in glue, and sprinkle glitter on each word and let them dry
cut out the no excuse words you find in a magazine and glue them on paper
make the no excuse words using magnetic letters and place on the fridge
spell the no excuse words on paper using colored markers, glitter pens, or special pencils
use black paper and have your child watch as the words appear while with white crayons
place rice in a shallow dish, and have your child trace the letters of the words in the rice
write the words on a "foggy car window", (only if this is ok with mom and dad!)
use sticker letters to stick the no excuse words together on paper
use sidewalk chalk and go outside to write the words on the sidewalk or concrete surface
spell the words out loud in the car, at the doctor's office, wherever you have time!
look for the words on signs, on food boxes, at stores.. everywhere, and have your child read them with you
play a guessing game telling your child to guess the no excuse word you are thinking about. For example: "I am thinking of a no excuse word that has two letters and begins with the letter "t"..." and have your child guess the word.
