Welcome to the Essential Feature of:

Commitment to Positive Behavior Support

Feature Purpose: Administration and at least 80% of staff agree to implement PBS as a way to support students and staff. Commitment provides the buy-in necessary for implementation with fidelity.

Feature Outcomes: This means that PBS Universal Essential Features are implemented by all staff with all students with sufficient intensity, integrity and consistency such that 80% or more of the students respond by consistently displaying expected behaviors.

Proficient Level of Implementation is:

·     We regularly and consistently address our building BIP including PBS mission/purpose and goal(s) by sharing data related to goals at monthly faculty meetings and provide staff development to address BIP PBS goals.

·      All our administrator(s) know and can verbalize the school PBS goals, regularly and consistently make PBS a priority, integrate PBS into all building documents, staff development and staff meetings and consistently counsel staff who need support to implement PBS. All our administrators regularly acknowledge staff who implement PBS.

·      We have a building PBS action plan that thoroughly addresses each PBS Essential Feature, is written annually, reviewed at least twice per year and revised as needed.

Implementation Examples Include:

·        PBS is included on the Building Improvement Plan (BIP)

·       Administrator is part of the team and attends meetings regularly

·       PBS information and data are shared at monthly faculty meetings

·       PBS staff expectations are documented, shared and reinforced

·       Professional Development regarding PBS is provided to all staff

·       PBS is included in home communication tools (e.g., newsletters, webpage, home folders, course syllabi,   etc.)

At the district level, the CPS Positive Behavior Support Leadership Team has drafted a district-wide purpose statement. This action has spurred many building level teams to revisit their current building-level purpose statement to ensure that:

  1. it aligns with the district purpose statement

  2. it address current concerns and issues while considering long range building goals

  3. all staff are aware of and understand the purpose of Positive Behavior Support in their building!
