Our Mission: Our middle schools and junior high schools will inspire each learner to develop intellectually and individually in a caring community where everyone is important, productive and safe.

We are committed to high expectations for
our students and educators.

As educators we believe:

  1. Middle school should be about everyone’s growth.
  2. It is our responsibility to model and teach the importance of life-long learning and positive, constructive behavior.
  3. It is our responsibility to teach students to be citizens of the world.
  4. It is our responsibility to promote celebrating and appreciating our diversity.
  5. All children can learn.
  6. It is our responsibility to create teams of students and teachers who support, encourage and nurture each individual to achieve his/her full potential.
  7. Middle school should be an academic bridge that takes students from their self-contained elementary experience to their more departmentalized junior high experience.

At Smithton you can expect:

  1. A challenging curriculum
  2. A program which allows students to explore old and develop new interests
  3. Educators trained and excited about working with middle school children
  4. Educators certified in their areas of instruction
  5. A variety or instructional strategies for diverse learners
  6. A supportive and nurturing environment
  7. Extra and co-curricular activities appropriate for middle school children
  8. Frequent and accurate communication
