Activities

Smithton Players (Drama)

is open to any 6th or 7th grader, but you have to audition to be cast in the show. 
We have rehearsals on Tuesday and Thurs. afternoons (3:00-5:00) for approximately 6 weeks and perform 2 shows during the school year. 

Auditions for the fall show will be Wed., Sept. 7 and Thurs., Sept. 8. 

Auditions for spring show will be mid-December.

There is a $15 fee (for scripts, snacks, t-shirt).

6th Grade Band
After school rehearsals meet Monday, Wednesday & Thursday
starting October 4th, 2010 from 3:05-4:05 p.m.

6th Grade Orchestra
Will practice on Tuesdays from 3:00 to 4:00 in the Orchestra room.
Practices start on October 6th

7th Grade Award Band
Will meet on Tuesdays from 3:30-4:30 at West Jr.

Intramurals

for both 6th and 7th grades; Tues/Thurs from 3-4:30p.m.

Fall:
Kickball/Volleyball (Sept. 20-Nov.3) 
Winter: Basketball (Jan 10-/Feb 23) 
Spring: Flag Football/Soccer (April 3-May 17)

6th Grade Wildcat Choir

Membership is based on early enrollment and good citizenship. 

Students must make a commitment to choir every Thursday from 3-4 p.m., but exceptions will be made for students who want to participate in the school play and/or intramurals. 

Our first rehearsal will be Thursday, September 15.

Computer Lab

Will be open to all students on days to be announced at a future time from 3:00-4:30 pm in rm 142.

Student Council

will meet the first and third Thursdays of each month (starting 15 September)

at 7:00 a.m. in the cafetorium. 

Membership is open to all interested students who want to make a commitment to help Smithton be the best it can be.

Science Olympiad

Is an academic competition in which a team of 15 students from Smithton competes against other teams in the region and the state. 

Students are selected for the team based on their performance at tryouts in the fall.  Only those 15 students selected for the team will continue to meet after winter break. 

Meetings are on Fridays from 3:00-4:30 in room 150 with Ms. Rohrs, Mrs. Alexander and Mr. Swope.

Clubs

 

Arabic Club
Will meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. This club will meet from 3:00-4:00 and will be about Middle Eastern culture, history, food and to learn the basics of the Arabic Language.
Bike Club

Learn about biking for fun and transportation!  Improve your skills with bike games, participate in cool events like bike parades, learn about bikes in sports, and help others through bike based fund-raisers.   Each meeting begins with a healthy snack followed by bike skills, games and rides.   Bike Club will meet after school Thursdays from 3-4:30.  

Builders Club
If you enjoy helping others? Builders Club is a service club where we do a variety of projects that benefit our school and community. We will meet the 1st Monday of each month in the
downstairs commons from 3:00-4:15 with Mrs. Campbell and Ms. Stock

Chess Club

Is for anyone who loves to play chess, from beginners to advanced players.
Meetings are from 3:00-4:10 on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month in room 105 with Mrs. Burlis, Ms. Schuricht & Mrs. Smith

Competitive Math Club

Is a club program that promotes competitions in mathematics. Students will be taking part in the SIGMA math league and will participate in the American Mathematics Competition 8 (AMC 8). Several students will qualify and compete in Math Counts, MCTM contest and the AMC 10.

First meeting is September 15th from 3:00 - 4:00 in room 215. Sponsor: Mrs. Winter

Computer Club
Club-this club is for students who want to help maintain a student web page and learn other computer skills. Meetings are every other Thursday from 3:05-4:05 with Mr. Hoover in room 160.

Eco-Art Club

Do you love to be creative?  Do you want to help save the earth?  Then join the eco-art club!  We'll be doing artsy activities that connect with saving the earth and enjoying nature, as well as helping out with the school recycling. 

If you were on Green Team last year, this is the new version, so hope to see you there!  We will meet the 2nd and 4th Mondays of the month in Mrs. Company's room, room 167, from 3:00-4:15. 

Our first meeting will be September 12.

FCCLA Club

Is the Family and Consumer Sciences club that will meet once each month with Mrs. Walker & Ms. McAllister. 

You will need to listen to the announcements for dates times and locations.

Knitting Club

Meets every Monday after school.  Learn to knit or improve your knitting skills

Meet in the café at 3:10 to walk with Ms. Malorin to Room 106.

Mac Scholars

Meets every other Thursday of each month from 3:10-4:00 in room 113 with Ms. Pegg, Ms. Sheets.
The purpose of the Minority Achievement Committee Scholars (MAC Scholars) at the Middle School Levels is to build character, increase self-awareness, increase academic achievement, decrease the achievement gap, teach goal setting, build community, provide support, develop leadership skills, increase community service involvement, increase parental involvement, build mentor partnerships, increase extracurricular involvement, and provide community service.

Playwriting/Acting Troupe

Is open to any 6th or 7th grader.  Mondays 3:00-5:00 come and learn basic playwriting skills and then perform for the group. 

Students can come after other clubs that might meet on Mondays.

There is no charge for this group.

Reading Club

Is for any 6th or 7th grader who enjoys reading and would like to work toward the Reading club field trip in the spring.

Meetings are on the 3rd Monday of each month in rm 205 with Ms. McCarty, Ms. Schuster,
Ms. Anderson , Mrs. Branahl and Ms. Stock.


Morning meetings will be in the Media Center on the 3rd Tuesday of the month from 7:10 to 7:55.

U Matter

Is Smithton's after school activities club.  We meet once a month on the third Tuesday from 3:00-4:10 in the downstairs commons with Mrs. Steele, our Outreach Counselor. 

This club celebrates a drug free lifestyle with the focus on having lots of fun without the use of alcohol, drugs or tobacco.  Come join us for fun, creativity and making new friends!!

Wildcat Fitness Club

Will meet 3:00-4:30 in the gym on Fridays beginning September 2nd.
This club is designed to improve cardiovascular fitness while playing games and having fun.  
The club is open to 6th & 7th grade students.

Yoga for Relaxation

Is open to 6th and 7th grade. Do you feel you are under a lot of stress. Homework, pressure to compete with other children, endless after-school activities, over-scheduling -- it all adds up. Turn to Yoga to help you relax and energize. 

We will meet Thursdays in room 216.  3:15--4pm. 

Wear comfortable clothes and bring a yoga mat or a towel.
