It seems the week is flying by. I couldn't believe it was Wednesday already as I walked into the classroom this morning. It seems the harder we work, the faster time goes by. We started today with writing workshop. Today we created heart maps. These maps show what we love in our lives. I saw a lot of students fill up their hearts with family, friends, hobbies, and pets. I think I even saw my name pop in a few. These hearts will be valuable for coming up with ideas to write about. After a quick restroom break, it was time for science. Mr. Williams was ready for them as we walked in the door. I'm not sure what they did during that time, but I'm sure it was fun. PE was next on the agenda. Mrs. Armontrout had a fun game set up with bowling pins and plastic balls. The students are supposed to try to knock over the other team's pins by rolling the balls across the gym. I could tell that the kids had a great time because they were all hot and out of breath when I picked them up. After a fast recess/lunch period, it was time for read aloud. We continued in our book Animal Farm. We learned today that two of the pigs aren't getting along. Squealer, a pig, also told the animals that the milk and apples are now only going to be for the pigs because it helps them think. I don't think that's fair. The class then discussed strategies for selecting just right books. We decided that reading the back of the book, picking a favorite genre, or choosing a familiar author or series are great ways to find a good read. Recess was a blast. I took out the camera so I could capture the fun moments. Students were hanging on the monkey bars, playing hand tennis, and balancing on the beam. It was overcast outside, so the weather was perfect. Finally it was time for math. I showed the students what their math homework will look like this year. After doing the first page, we then shifted gears and started talking about multiples. We used the Smartboard to find all the multiples of "2". Then the students went off to find the multiples of the numbers from "2" through "12". At last it was time for agendas. I realized that I stopped too early because we were packed up and ready to leave at 3:30. We are getting more efficient every day. The week sure is flying by. I wonder what Thursday will bring? |
