The skies were cloudy and rain was threatening as we walked into our trailer for our Tuesday. It was a nice break from the searing heat. I've heard a lot of complaints about the trailer being too cold (you know who you are), so I decided to turn off the air to try to even out the temperatures. After another awesome morning routine, we were sitting at the carpet for our Morning Meeting. The first item on our agenda was to finish our student/car personalities. We learned that the majority of the class feels their personality closely resembles a sports car's. SUV's and 4-door sedans came in last. The students were excited to get back to work on their student webpages. They carefully set up their handhelds and keyboards are began to work. The air was filled with the clicking of fingers on keyboards. Most everyone got finished and synced their writing before it was time for homework. Yes, it was time for homework. I showed the students the first piece of our homework: word study. We talked about the different types of questions and how to complete them properly. I know that a lot of students (you know who you are) were really looking forward to getting their homework, so they were chomping at the bit to get started. After music, which featured a famous substitute, it was time for recess/lunch. I had peanut butter and jelly and some great cookies from Sarah F. With our stomachs full and our anticipation high, we settled down to read some more from our read aloud, Animal Farm. We learned that the animals were able to overthrow Mr. Jones and took over the farm. They then created seven commandments that all animals must follow. I can't wait to find out what happens tomorrow. Soon after we finished our book, we entered our first information in our Gotta Know Bios books. Today we talked about three famous people: Alexander Hamilton, Henry Ford, and Condaleezza Rice. Most of the class was surprised to learn that Hamilton was killed by the Vice President of the U.S.! It seemed like second recess flew by in a second. Especially since the weather was so nice and cool. When we came in the class, I showed the students my article from yesterday. I can tell that many students want to get their turn quickly so they can get a good entry for the world famous Villitzer Award. When we finished reading my writing, the students went off to read their chapter books or write their student webpages. I was also able to get a few of them up online. You can access our pages by clicking here. Finally the day was over. There were several students who didn't want to leave (you know who you are), but we had to stop to go home. I really can't believe that Wednesday is upon us already. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you back here soon! |
