Ann Hawkins Gentry Middle School opened in 1994. In 1837, Ann Hawkins Gentry was appointed Postmistress of Columbia. She remained in this position until 1865. Ann Hawkins Gentry died on January 18, 1870, and is buried in the Columbia Cemetery. She was inducted into the Boone County Hall of Fame, Boone County Historical Society, in 1995.

The Gentry mascot is the Jaguar.

The school colors are rich red and royal blue.

The 2013-14 enrollment at Gentry is 843.

Gentry Mission Statement: The mission of Gentry Middle School is to inspire students to develop intellectually and socially in a community where everyone is respected, productive, and safe.
