Douglass High SchoolDouglass High School

Frederick Douglass High School opened in 1885. Before being renamed in 1898, Frederick Douglass High School had two other names--Cummings Academy and Excelsior School. The school is named in honor of the runaway slave who became a leading abolitionist speaker.
