The original Thomas Hart Benton Elementary School opened in 1896. Thomas Hart Benton was one of the most colorful statesmen of the 19th century. An active supporter of statehood, he was elected in 1820 as one of the first two senators from Missouri and served for 30 years. He championed the cause of the yeoman farmer and the interests of the western territories.

The Benton mascot is the Bee.

The school colors are black and yellow.

The 2012-13 enrollment at Benton is 299.

Mission:  Learning through Discovery, Leading with Character

  • Academic Excellence--We will set high expectations and use effective instructional strategies to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Exploration and Relevance--We will construct real-world opportunities for children to make discoveries on their own, integrating science, technology, engineering, and math into the other curricular areas.
  • Character--We will build a positive environment and empower children to become people of integrity, compassion, and empathy.
  • Partnerships--We will develop partnership and promote opportunities for family and community involvement in our building.
