Ahhh, you've chosen Publisher.  What a great choice!

Background Info:

Advertisements are very special tools used by people to make others want to buy something.  They usually have:


Directions: (Read through all directions before starting!)

1.  Begin by brainstorming a list of important details from the book.  List these details on a page in your Writer's Notebook.  Be thinking about main characters, setting, important features or symbols, and themes.

2.  Open Microsoft Publisher.

3.  In the publication gallery, click on "Quick Publications."

4.  Choose the layout you want for group's advertisement.  Double click on the layout.

5.  Navigate through the "Publication Wizard" by choosing your preferences and clicking "Next."  When the wizard is finished, click "Finish."

6.  Begin choosing your clip art and typing in important words.  Just remember, this advertisement is supposed the make someone want to read Holes.  Make sure your clip art and typing are facts about the book.

7.  If you want to add or change your publication, use the buttons on the left side of your screen to help you.  This is what they stand for:

-A (Text Frame Tool) = Use this to draw a box for typing.
-W/A (Word Art Frame Tool) = Use this to draw a box and insert Word Art into your advertisement.
-(Picture Frame Tool) = Use this to draw a box and insert a real photograph into your advertisement.
-(Clip Gallery Tool) = Use this to draw a box and insert clip art into your advertisement.
-(Line, Oval, Square, and Custom Shape Tools) - Use these to draw shapes in your publication.
8.  To save your document:
1)  Go to "File" then "Save As."
2)  Click on "My Documents" then "Desktop."
3)  Double click on "Shortcut to Students."
4)  Double click on "Holes."
5)  Type in your partner's and your name where it says "File Name."
6)  Click "Save"
*** You should save your advertisement every 10 minutes.   Just click on the disk at the top of your screen.
