Ahhh, you've chosen the PowerPoint. What a great choice!
Summaries are shorter statements of something longer. Many people use summaries to find out what something, like a book or movie, is about.Directions:(Read all directions before starting!)
We are going to use a summary to tell others about the book Holes. There are five main parts we need in our summary:1. Characters - (Who are the main characters in the book and what is their role?)
2. Setting - (Where is the story taking place? Include the time (past, present, future) and region (USA, middle of ocean, mountains)).
3. Plot - (What is the story about? What happens in the story - don't tell the end!)
4. Good parts- (What makes this book worth reading?)
5. Recommendations - (Who do you think would like the book and why?)
1. Open your or your partner's Writer's Notebook to the next available page. Divide the paper into 5 sections, with the headings of 1) Characters, 2) Setting, 3) Plot, 4) Good Parts, 5) Recommendations.
2. List or write a paragraph about the main characters under the "Character" section. Repeat for each section, following the headings.
3. Open up PowerPoint. Your rough draft must be done before you do this.
4. Click on the title slide and then click "OK". Fill in the Title and Author of Holes in the "Title" box, and your names in the "Subtitle" box.
5. Inserting New Slides
Click on "Insert" then "New Slide" at the top of your screen, and choose a slide layout for your character slide. Click "OK" and begin typing in characters' names.
**Type all data before
you start to add clip art.
6. Repeat for the rest of the slides. When you're finished, you should have a total of 6 or more slides (including the title page).
7. Backgrounds:
For a solid color background, click on "Format" then "Background." Click on the drop down arrow for colors. Then click "Apply to All."
For a background template, click on "Format" then "Apply Design Template." Choose your template then press "Apply.8. To save your document:
1) Go to "File" then "Save As."*** You should save your summary every 10 minutes. Just click on the disk at the top of your screen.
2) Click on "My Documents" then "Desktop."
3) Double click on "Shortcut to Students."
4) Double click on "Holes."
5) Type in your partner's and your name where it says "File Name."
6) Click "Save"
Check the rubric to see if you've met all of the goals.
Congratulations! You're ready to summarize anything!
