The School/Community Programs Department provides a vehicle through which our schools -- staff and teachers, K-12 -- and our community work together to accomplish four goals:

  • share resources to strengthen our schools’ programs
  • improve student achievement for all students
  • better prepare our students for the world of work
  • enhance our community's economic growth.

Scope and Content

The School/Community Programs Department serves to enhance the education of Columbia students K-12 by developing and coordinating educational partnerships involving the entire Columbia Public Schools system and the Columbia community.

Volunteers from private companies, government, non-profit organizations, colleges and universities, as well as retirees and other individuals assist schools in bringing the world of work directly into the classroom. These volunteers work hand-in-hand with teachers and students through:

  • business-education partnerships
  • partnership friends
  • school-based volunteer programs
  • foster grandparents
  • and additional direct and indirect services for students and staff.
