Roles & Responsibilities

PIE Director
The role of the school district's PIE Director is essentially advisory in nature. The PIE Director will:

  • Produce materials which support and promote the program.
  • Seek new business partners through individual contacts and appropriate organizations.
  • Facilitate all kick-off celebrations.
  • Facilitate the development of new partnerships and assist with existing ones.
  • Monitor school needs to determine appropriate linkages with business.
  • Collect data regarding partnerships.
  • Ensure that equity exists among schools participating in the PIE program.
  • Attend joint steering committee meetings.
  • Provide in-service training for business and school partners.
  • Monitor and evaluate program.

School Contact
The school contact (principal) will:

  • Work closely with the steering committee to design a PIE program which addresses the needs and capitalizes upon the resources of both partners.
  • Assign PIE responsibilities to individual teachers.
  • Work with the business contact to become familiar with the business.
  • Coordinate release time for teachers and students, schedule PIE activities, and allocate resources.
  • Attend monthly steering committee meetings.
  • Promote and publicize the PIE program.
  • Keep the PIE director informed of the partnership's progress.
  • Assign a person to record and disseminate notes of PIE steering committee meetings.
  • Assist with dissemination of PIE information to the media.
  • Communicate with the PIE office on a regular basis.
  • Invite business employees for a tour of school.

Chief Executive Officer
This individual's role will be the same regardless of the size of the company. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will:

  • Establish top level commitment to PIE.
  • Authorize use of company resources.
  • Designate a high-level representative as the business contact.
  • Identify five employees who will serve on the steering committee.
  • Release five employees one hour a month to attend the steering committee meeting.
  • Promote participation by employees.
  • Release employees to participate in the PIE program during the year.

Business Contact
The business contact will:

  • Work closely with the steering committee to design a PIE program which addresses the needs and resources of both partners.
