Checklist for Business/Community Organizations

  1. Designate a PIE contact person.
  2. Prepare a profile of your business for your school partner.
  3. Designate four or five employees/members to serve as members of the Steering Committee.
  4. Meet with full Steering Committee & PIE Director to discuss initial activities which include:
    1. organizing a get acquainted activity with your school partner,
    2. planning a "kick-off" assembly,
    3. developing a mission statement,
    4. developing objectives, and
    5. conducting a needs assessment and a resource assessment.
  5. Meet monthly with the full Steering Committee to plan activities and identify student achievement goals you will address.
  6. Appoint a Steering Committee member to serve as a recorder. This recorder will take monthly minutes and disseminate the minutes to school faculty, business employees, and the PIE office. The recorder should also be responsible for maintaining records for the semi-annual and annual report. The report(s) should contain the following:
    1. a brief description of each activity,
    2. the number and hours of teachers participating,
    3. the number of students participating,
    4. the number and hours of business employees participating, and
    5. the identification of achievement goals.
  7. Appoint a steering committee member who will be responsible for relaying public relations information to the PIE department, the local media, and the school newspaper.
  8. Promote the Partners In Education program in your business through requests for input, letters in paychecks, letters sent to homes, posters in office and hallways, bulletin board displays, etc.
  9. Coordinate employee volunteer release time if possible. Arrange for all employees that agree to volunteer to attend an orientation session at the partner school. The PIE Director or staff member will conduct this training.
  10. Complete an action plan and submit to School/Community Programs Department.
  11. Complete an evaluation report at the end of each school year and submit to School/Community Programs Department.
