Dear Parents ...

Parents As Teachers believes in forming partnerships with parents. We believe that you are your child’s first and most influential teacher. We believe that you are the expert on your child - who your child is and what your child needs. We know that the earliest years of your child’s development can be some of the most important and precious. We are delighted to be able to work with you to bring out the best in your child. Helping children reach their fullest potential is what we all strive for.
Working together will insure that your get the most out of your experience with Parents As Teachers. As winter approaches, there are some simple things you can do to help us. Please let your parent educator know if the roads to your home are safe to drive. Parent Educators do not always cancel their visits when school is cancelled because of inclement weather. It is

up to each Parent Educator and family to decide if the home visit will take place. With the sun setting early in the day, please make an effort to turn on your porch light and secure your pets before her arrival. Remember that your Parent Educator is driving from house to house all day long and there may be some delays in her arrival because of poor road conditions. It’s amazing how quickly a little snow or ice can accumulate on a drive across town.
The winter months also bring in the cold and flu season. As experienced parents themselves, Parent Educators understand that little ones can become unexpectedly ill. If this happens, we appreciate you calling your parent educator to reschedule the visit as soon as possible. The sooner you call, the sooner she will be able to reschedule the visit, but remember that most parent educators schedule home visits six weeks in advance. So, it may be some weeks before she can come to see you again.

Parent Educators do careful planning and preparation before every visit. We plan activities and collect information for each family, hoping that the time you set aside for the visit will be well worth it. We understand how busy our PAT families are, and we appreciate it when you show us that you understand how busy Parent Educators are by keeping your scheduled appointments or calling us in advance if you have to cancel due to a sudden illness or emergency. Minimizing distractions like the television, phone calls and curious pets allows us to give your and your child our full attention. We feel privileged to be welcomed into your home.
