Dear Parents ...

This is the time of year many of you begin asking your parent educator for a list of age appropriate toys to add to your holiday shopping list. Without question, YOU are your child’s favorite toy and best playmate. Our newsletter this month focuses on providing your child a safe home environment. Toy safety should be a goal for all parents.
Anyone who reads the paper, watches the news or listens to the radio will know that there have been many toy recalls in recent months due to concerns about lead and toys with small parts that end up as choking hazards. Safe toys for young children should be well-made, no sharp parts, splinters or hinges that could pinch small fingers. They should be made

with paint that is nontoxic and lead-free. They should be shatter proof, easy to clean and for children under age 3, they should not contain any small parts that could come loose and pose a chocking hazard. Children can be hard on toys...they won’t always remain in perfect condition. Parents need to periodically check toys to make sure they are in good repair.
Parents as Teachers has handouts that list age appropriate toys and activities for children from birth to kindergarten. Your parent educator would be happy to share them with you. Have a SAFE and PLAYFUL Holiday Season!

Enjoy fun activities while encouraging your child to develop healthy habits and self-help skills.

Try activities like these:
Measuring station: measure your child’s height & weight and record on outline drawing of your child.
Coats & gloves & mittens station: little ones can practice putting on coats & gloves all by themselves.
Parents will receive tips on raising “health-smart” children.
