Whiskeytown: Pneumonia

Genre: Rock

Dates: 1991

While this band never lived up to its full potential—thanks to volatile relationships between bandmates—this album is still one of the best things that Ryan Adams has ever (and will ever) do. This is one of the few great alt-country albums, with amazing songs like "Jacksonville Skyline"(an ode to Bob Dylan), and "Paper Moon" (an ode to Nick Drake). As well, this album shows the band's many influences (such as the Replacements and Gram Parsons). If you only know Adams' solo work, this is a fabulous place to catch up with his past. — John Grupe
