Van Morrison : Astral Weeks
Genre: Gaelic Folk Rock Dates: 1968

Music for the dark nights of your soul. Nothing in rock and roll sounds quite like it: Morrison's haunted, sympathetic vocals (as critic Lester Banks has pointed out, though only in his twenties at the time, Van sounds ancient) and acoustic guitar borne aloft by a bona fide jazz trio (Richard Davis, acoustic bass, Jay Berliner, guitar, and Connie Kay, drums) and occasional winds, riding a song cycle that stretches from birth to death.
