Texas Tornados : Texas Tornados

Genre: Conjunto Rock and Roll

Dates: 1990

Conjunto rock and roll, baby! That means accordian, pumpin’ Vox organ, bluesy guitar, steady bass and drums, bilingual lyrics, the most soulful vocals you’ve ever heard from a Texas Caucasian (Doug Sahm), the most soulful vocals you’ve ever heard from a Mexican (Baldemar “Freddy Fender” Huerta), and a full-on Tex-Mex party. The first cut, “Who Were You Thinkin’ Of?” used to be the theme song for Glenn’s Cafe in downtown Columbia; the eighth, written by Butch Hancock (commonly referred to as Texas’ version of Bob Dylan), features the following line: “She said ‘If you’re from Texas, son/Where’s your boots, and where’s your gun?’/ I said, ‘I got guns no one can see.’” If you check out and dig it, your next stop is The Best of the Sir Douglas Quintet  (see above).
