The Carters were the First Family of Country Music. Leader A. P. Carter is one of the most valuable players of all early American music as well; he single-handedly rescued hundreds of mountain songs from obscurity. Unfortunately, their recordings will almost surely challenge young listeners, not only due to the rough quality of '20s production, but also due to the uncompromising mountain purity and hauntingly flat affect of their delivery. Here, a group of country all-stars, including their own progeny (June Carter Cash) and their most famous in-laws (Johnny and Rosanne Cash), interpret their greatest songs in "the modern style." Any fan of the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack is required to check this out!
