Sarah Vaughan : Ken Burns Jazz

Genre: Vocal Jazz

Dates: 1944-1985

Though Ella Fitzgerald saw more popular acclaim, "Sassy" was probably the smarter, most gifted, and most versatile singer. This collection misses too many high spots (notably the supernal "Shulie A Bop"), but it does show the range of her interpretive abilities, the development of her career, and the peaks, valleys, nooks, and crannies of one of the most burnished and flexible voices in popular music.
