Sex Pistols : Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols

Genre: Punk

Dates: 1978

Like Elvis in '54, and the Beatles in '64, Johnny Rotten and his crew of sods are among the few musicians who can claim to have utterly altered the course of pop music in one fell swoop. Besides claiming the world for punk rock, they spiked home the message of the Ramones (and, really, many musicians before): ANYBODY can do this—and if you're not happy, you SHOULD. What followed was an explosion of democratic creativity and a nearly-untrackable invention and subdivision of genres and styles. If you've ever felt you can't keep up with new music…in many ways, this record opened the floodgates. If that history isn't enough for you, the world had never heard a singer as maniacal as Rotten (even Iggy Pop had to have felt a little inadequate!), and he hurls out lines that would have been unthinkable the day before the record's release. Then…the band blew up and Rotten began a new mission: destroy rock and roll ("It's 25 years old and it needs to die.") Seek out Public Image Limited's Second Edition to experience his (ultimately unsuccessful, but wonderfully intriguing) assault.
