Slim Gaillard : Laughin' in Rhythm - The Verve Years |
Genre: Jazz |
Dates: Late 40's - Early 50's |
Gaillard was the Clown Prince of Be-Bop. Besides having invented his own bop language (“vout,” which you’ll become very familiar with on this mind-bending compilation—pronunciation varies) and learned to speak multiple other actual languages (including those of animals), Slim also played a mean guitar, fine piano, tap-danced, drummed (sometimes all on the same cut—try “Genius”)—and, Lord, he could make a fellow laugh. He also recorded with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie on ground-breaking “serious” tracks. Trust me, folks, this is a cure for the mopes.
