You've heard about ska revivals (see The Specials, above); here's a shot from the 1990s, which gave us pop-ska (No Doubt), frat-ska (Mighty Mighty Bosstones), and punk/metal/rap-ska-Sublime. Brad Newell's premature demise kept us from seeing what kind of maturity such a fusion might bring, but before he checked out he left us with some fun if dissolute tunes. Note: Regarding simple ol' punk-ska, the Clash were on that trail in '79 (listen to London Calling's "Wrong 'Em Boy-o), and Operation Ivy (and its stellar offshoot, Rancid) made it a calling card before it was a twinkle in Newell's eye. Look for both of the latter bands to make the collection sooner than soon.
