Red Hot Chili Peppers: What Hits!?

Genre: Rock

Dates: 1980's and 1990's

Far funkier honkies have strode the rock and roll stage. Wilder musical shamans have turned their minions to Maenads. Iggy Pop beat them to ad-popping, jeans-dropping physical exhibitionism and stellar shirtless-man-ship by over ten years. In terms of offstage profligacy, they can't carry Jerry Lee Lewis' OR George Clinton's criminal jacket. Flea is the Neil Peart of rock and roll bass players—and I'll leave that uncommented upon. However, one must, I suppose give them their props for endurance, consistency, esprit de corps, and rock attitude. Heck, I even like a couple of these: "Higher Ground"'s a great "What if Jimi had been alive to cover Stevie?" idea; "True Men Don't Kill Coyotes" is actually punk-funky; few '90s hit songs were more moving than "Under the Bridge."
