Ramones: All the Stuff, Volume One |
Genre: Punk Rock |
Dates: 1975-1978 |
While more ambitious and deluded folks were busy trying to make rock and roll "better"—thus, killing it in the process-by writing science fiction concept albums, adding layer upon layer of alien instruments (like synthesizers), and taking themselves way too seriously, the Ramones wrote about being geeks, stripped their music down to the most basic elements (one barre-chording guitar, one "singer," and a rhythm section predicated on 1-2-3-4), and remembered rock and roll was supposed to fast and fun—thus, saving it in the process. They also remembered rock and roll was supposed to be democratic; nearly anyone reading this can learn to play these songs with a couple of weeks' practice—perhaps less!
