Genre: Pop/ Singer-Songwriter |
Dates: 1972 |
In this humble writer's opinion, Simon and Garfunkel were a pox on American pop: wimpy, smug, and corny. But even a player-hater like me cannot deny that this song collection—musically, lyrically, and every way—is one of the landmarks of '70s singer-songwriting, comparable to Bob Dylan's Blood on the Tracks. "Mother and Child Reunion" and "Me and Julio" were monster hits, but I'd argue they aren't necessarily the best songs here. A tour de force of writing and singing and playing with exquisite detail.
