PJ Harvey: To Bring You My Love
Genre: Rock Dates: 1995

Polly Harvey was the most dominating woman in rock and roll during the 1990s. Her unchained vocals, lyrics, and guitar playing hijacked sexual aggression from her male forebears and used it as weaponry against (or at least in pursuit of) them, a neat trick. By this, her third album, she'd put down the guitar (damn!), taken singing lessons (to help her shape an already powerful instrument, one presumes), and become tired of crafting sex-shock phrasing (inevitable, one guesses). Result: her deepest, most powerful record, one she's yet to top in the 12 years since.
