Oblivians : The Sympathy Sessions

Genre: Memphis Garage Rock

Dates: Mid 90's

If you think the cover’s down and dirty (parental advisory!), wait ‘til you get a load of the music. Just as a sheen of paint and polish was brushed on American punk rock by an army of major label bonus-boys, Greg and Jack Oblivian came along with their scalding, paint-and-polish-stripping version of rock and roll, reminding everyone who listened (not enough) that our music’s supposed to be raw, fast, and dangerous. And, kiddies, it’s no accident it came from Memphis (see Robert Gordon’s book of the same name and its two companion CDs). This is their output for Sympathy; their work for Goner, a little harder to find in the perfect form for this collection, is even nastier. Not recommended to fans of Jack Johnson, Josh Groban, or any of the other Sensitive Sentinels of current American “Rock.”
