For defying the straitjacket expectations of the mainstream hip-hop audience, keeping the wonderful weirdness of Southern music alive (ATL!), giving props to the tripartite verities—P-Funk, Stevie Wonder, Prince—and propagating inspired silliness, Outkast was—and is—difficult to beat. It was hard to pick one of their big three for the collection, but among those inconsistent masterpieces, this is the most consistent. Another group whose (real) greatest hits album will be a classic.
