New York Dolls: New York Dolls
|
|
|
Genre: Punk/Glam Rock
|
Dates: 1973
|
All the Dolls wanted to be were the American Rolling
Stones. But because they were sloppier, less serious, living in Manhattan, and far less
pure, they missed—fortunately for us. The result was uniquely American:
loud, trashy, glamorous, full of contradictions and complicated fast times.
Their total output was two records, but without them, Aerosmith,
'80s hairband hard rock, and even the Sex
Pistols (with whom they shared a manager and whose guitarist lifted Johnny
Thunders' six-string paroxyms whole
for half his style) would have been unthinkable.
