Missy's singles are so, uh, dope that we can't wait for her greatest hits collection; her albums are always a little uneven. But considering the general consistency of this one, the excellent guest turns, and the eternally funky "Work It," we can stand by it 'til then. No woman in hip-hop history has had comparable conceptual and artistic impact on the genre, and she's done without kowtowing or playing the geisha (submissive she definitely ain't); unfortunately, as of this late date, she's inspired too few followers. Ladies—where y'at?
