Lauryn Hill: The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill |
Genre: Rap |
Dates: 1998 |
Lauryn Hill's music is difficult to classify because she incorporates aspects of hip hop, R n' B, jazz, funk, and soul. The Miseducation is a collection of emotional stories from her life and social commentary combined with steady and sometimes barren rhythms. The album was the first hip-hop album to win a Grammy for best album and won four other Grammys the same year. The album opens with "Lost Ones", continues to her biggest hit, "Doo Wop (That Thing)", and ends with a slow cover of "Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You" by Frankie Valli. Lauryn Hill's vocal, instrumental, and rapping talent make for an intense and meaningful album.
