Lee Dorsey : Workin' in a Coal Mine - The Very Best of Lee Dorsey

Genre: New Orleans R & B

Dates:1960's - 1970's

Former prize-fighter and long-time mechanic Dorsey sported one of the sweetest and most seductive voices in '60s soul, but his most effective secret weapons were the songs, piano, and production of the great Allen Toussaint, and the crack New Orleans studio bands (were there any other kind?) who backed him, specifically including the Meters, who funk-inject nearly half of these cuts. Historical note: "Ya Ya" is certainly the only song about constipation to ever make the Top 10!
