Half the brain trust behind the equally intriguing Rilo Kiley, and barely out of her teens, Lewis has established herself as one of the most unique singer-songwriters in America. Her first solo album relies on pretty ordinary folk-country arrangements (compared to Riley Kiley’s, barely classifiable as indie rock, if you go for such categories), but her lyrics—ecstatic one minute, angry the next, free-associative in between—distinguish her from the run of young women who populate the genre.
