Fleetwood Mac : Rumours

Genre: Rock

Dates: 1977

Despite the poncey album cover and the Gore/Clinton-ruined "Don't Stop," this is one tough collection of California pop. A little of everything: guitar-driven heartbreak songs ("Second-Hand News," "Go Your Own Way"), witchy sexual mystery songs ("Dreams," "The Chain"), warm love songs ("You Make Loving Fun," "Songbird"), even something damning ("Gold Dust Woman"). Still sounds great thirty years later, and dig Robert Christgau's observation regarding lead singers Christine McVie and Stevie Nicks: "the cute-voiced woman writes and sings the tough lyrics and the husky-voiced woman the vulnerable ones." Neat-o.
— Phil Overeem

One of the definitive albums of the '70s, made through some of the hardest circumstances any band has had to go through to produce an album. One of the biggest-selling albums of all time, Rumours deals with lost love while remaining as catchy as any pop rock album out today. While divorce doesn't do that for everybody, it did for them, and the entire band hit creative peaks in both its writing and music. After you listen to the album, you will know why it is one of the top selling albums of all time. — John Grupe
