The Flying Burrito Brothers: The Gilded Palace of Sin

Genre: Country Rock

Dates:1969

Still the pinnacle of country-rock. As sung and written here by its inventor, Gram Parsons, the genre brings together country and city, mainstream and counter-culture, tradition and innovation, devotion and subversion. Don't blame him for the Eagles, and don't blame Uncle Tupelo and its offshoots for striving fruitlessly to get within shouting distance of him, because the mystery, tragedy, humor, defiance, and yearning in Parson's attack seem so rooted in the human experience you'll think you can do it, too. Inspirational Verse (from "Sin City"): "A gold-plated door/On the 31st floor/Won't keep you/From the Lord's burning rain."
