Donna Summer : On the Radio, Greatest Hits Volume 1 & 2 |
Genre: Pop/Disco |
Dates: 1970s |
I've said it before, and I'll say it again—because I was there: disco did NOT suck. This fetching, soulful woman was one reason why. Like her successor Madonna, she didn't have a great voice; she just loved to sing, and could project feeling at will. Aside from movers like "Hot Stuff," "Bad Girls," and "Love to Love You Baby" (even better now that we know she'd get religion right after) and late night club-closers like "Dim All the Lights" and "Last Dance," she did what even Elvis couldn't: made the worst song in American history, "MacArthur Park," listenable. Give the diva her props, kids.
