Carole King

Carole King : Tapestry

Genre: Singer Songwriter

Dates:1971

The master writer and melodist behind girl group classics (“Will You Love Me Tomorrow?”, “Chains”), fake-British Invasion hits (“Pleasant Valley Sunday”), and folk- rock cult faves (“Wasn’t Born to Follow”) turns her pen personal here, and as such became one of the early definers of the later much-reviled singer-songwriter genre. Memorable tunes, true words, and surprisingly moving vocals all made this LP a serious chart-buster. Guest guitarist: James Taylor (later marked for death by Lester Bangs, one of rock’s “Noise Boys” critics.
