Built to Spill

Built to Spill : There's Nothing Wrong with Love

Genre: Alternative Rock

Dates: 1994

Released in 1994, There’s Nothing Wrong with Love and Built to Spill remain a direct precursor of the Northwest “indie rock” sound.  Death Cab for Cutie and Modest Mouse, most notably, borrow from Dave Martsch’s unnaturally high-pitched vocals.  Accenting the fact that this is easily Built to Spill’s most innocent record, “Big Dipper,” “Car,” and “Twin Falls” focus on the adventures of adolescence.  The band’s approach to songwriting was centered on short to medium length pop songs, and they wouldn’t return to this style until their fourth album, Keep It Like a Secret.
