Booker T and the MG's : The Best of Booker T and the MG's

Genre: Soul Instrumental

Dates: 1960's

They were the backing band behind countless Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Albert King, and Sam and Dave hits. On their own and at their best, they cut instrumentals that reeked of smoke, wine, sweat—the streets, in general, and Memphis, in particular. They did try to cut some pop stuff, but this collection’s light on that—just “Summertime,” which ain’t half bad. But...remember these names: Booker T. Jones (organ), Donald “Duck” Dunn (bass), Al Jackson (on drums), and Steve Cropper (guitar). And, if you have a crowd at the crib, program “Green Onions” and “Hip Hug-Her” back to back, push “play,” and watch the movement.
