Black Sabbath : We Sold Our Souls for Rock and Roll

Genre: Metal

Dates: 1970's

Yep—like the Who, the Beatles, the Stones, and the Yardbirds, they were Brits. But, also like those bands, they were hugely influential on American metal. Satanic? Uh, not really. In fact, a case can be made (check the lyrics of "War Pigs") that the Oz and company were working a strangely working-class Christian angle. However, I advise you to luxuriate in what were at the time the heaviest, loudest guitar riffs in history, and not take the lyrics too seriously at all. Do you really need that counseling at this point?
