Genre: Soul/Funk/Spoken Word |
Dates: 1970-1979 |
The assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Robert F. Kennedy led the Civil Rights movement into a state of turbulence, anger, and crisis. This revelatory historical-musical document captures the post-assassination period poignantly, mixing classic socially conscious funk and soul tracks with excerpts from speeches by the leaders of the day. It's revelatory, mostly because it leans on tracks even folks who were alive at the time may not remember. A must for American history teachers who manage to get to the late '60s and early '70s.
