Buddy Holly : The Definitive Collection |
Genre: Rock |
Dates: 1956-1958 |
Already a giant at 22, Holly’s life was snuffed out in plane crash in 1959. He laid the groundwork for the Beatles, who worshipped him, covered his songs, and, in many ways, finished the groundbreaking work he seemed to have started when he died: the perfection of the complex rock and roll relationship song. Besides writing and singing about love and heartbreak with innocence and grace (try “Everyday”), he could rock on par with Elvis, Jerry Lee, and Carl Perkins (“Midnight Shift,” “Oh Boy,” “Rave On”). And he raised the hiccup to an art form!
