Bright Eyes

Bright Eyes : Lifted

Genre: Indie Rock

Dates: 2002

Conor Oberst’s strangled emotionalism can be trying on the unsuspecting ear—but...remember a similar Midwestern kid named Bob Dylan. Oberst doesn’t show Dylan’s knack for aphorisms, political commentary, or surrealism, but, in the words of Johnny Rotten, he means it, man, and he has a very specific way with words. If you’ve ever been to Oberst’s Omaha, you can understand why he may feel as well as sound strangled. And...if you think strangled is that much of an insult, consider David Byrne, David Bowie, Tom Verlaine, even John Lennon. Thank Elvis you don’t have to be Celine Dion to deliver a solid rock and roll blow.
