The first of three double-CD sets that document the evolution, rise, and fall of the Fab Four (be sure to check out the companion 6-DVD set from the Daniel Boone Library). Many of the recordings (some of them speech fragments) have never been heard before; others are previously unheard alternative versions (some live) of familiar songs. What the listener will learn is the breadth of the group's early influences (Buddy Holly, Carl Perkins, Eddie Cochran, the Coasters, Little Richard, Tin Pan Alley pop, barbershop quartets, Motown, Chuck Berry—that's what you call eclectic taste, kids) and the meteoric growth of the writing partnership of John Lennon and Paul McCartney. From the catchy (and cloying) simplicity of "Love Me Do" to the deceptive complexity (lyrically, emotionally, structurally) of "No Reply" and "Eight Days a Week" in a little over two years is skills growth MAP test analysts would appreciate.
