It's said that one night, legendary jazz pianist, singer, songwriter, and personality Fats Waller walked into a bar, heard Tatum (himself a Waller disciple), turned to a friend, and said "God is in the house." Check this out, put it in the player, slap on the headphones, and hear why. I know of fewer "listening games" more fun than becoming familiar enough with the straight versions of the standards Tatum plays that you can hum the melodies from memory, then beholding the spins, glosses, baroque decoration, and deconstructive tricks with which the man attacks them. Mind-bogglingly fast, fluent, inventive, and...funny, the man earns the aforementioned legend.
