No album has captured the uncertainty, dread, and malaise of the post-9/11 world with as much emotional accuracy as this, the second release by a Canadian collective that carefully balances the rock and roll impulse with indie rock’s newfound interest in classical tinges. I first listened to it riding on a bus through a Pennsylvania storm while reading Cormac McCarthy’s The Road—and haven’t been the same since.
