Afrika Bambaataa : Looking for the Perfect Beat 1980 - 1985

Genre: Hip-Hop

Dates: 1980-1985

An early '70s NYC gang member, Bambaataa educated himself and became the first major spokesman and promoter for tripartite hip-hop culture: graffiti, breaking, and rap. Along the way, against all odds, he connected the robotic synthesizer stylings of German technopoppers Kratfwerk to the DJ's turntable platter, resulting in two of the most anthemic singles in rap history, "Planet Rock" and "Looking for the Perfect Beat." To this day, he continues to propound the same philosophy that's at the heart of this collection—peace, unity, love…and HAVING FUN.
