Navigation Bar Abyss/As Ants Invade

He says to her,
"You’ve been reading too much Virginia Woolf."
Not looking at her,
he stamps them out
one by one
with his thumb.
She looks at the little black marks
left on the white counter
the once strong bodies
destroyed by her husband’s hands.
As she watches their lifeless bodies,
she suddenly recalls
how she said when she was younger,
she would never marry a man
who would crush her.
